1 first author AJ, 1 Coauthor, 2 first author in prep, 2 REU (1 Caltech SURF)

Emailed the graduate coordinator and was told that I had not made it to the next round of admissions. 8 funded positions are open, to be selected out of 350 applicants. Was told that official results will be sent out in a few weeks.

1.5 years of research and internships. This was my undergrad school, so this sucks.

Had an interview a month ago

Emailed the grad coordinator on 4 March, received the response today. "Thank you for reaching out and for your interest in UC Santa Cruz. I wanted to let you know that, unfortunately, you have not advanced to our next round in the admissions process. The applications we received this year were extremely competitive. The committee thought highly of your application, of your achievements to date, and of your promise for distinguished scholarly work in the future. However, the competition is increasingly keen, and unfortunately, our resources are limited. We received well over 320 applications for 8 funded positions. The admissions committee deeply appreciates your interest and the time and effort expended by you and your letter writers. Even though you were not awarded a position this year, your nomination and application have brought your work to the attention of the UCSC Astronomy department. We hope that you will find other appropriate provisions to enable you to pursue a graduate career this year."
