No Mail as of now. I checked the portal, and a Rejection was Waiting! Finally, After more than 4 effing Months. Thank you UBC!

Finally heard back from them!

Thank you for your application to the Ph.D. in Computer Science offered by the University of British Columbia's Vancouver Campus for the term beginning September 1, 2023. We regret to inform you that your application for this graduate program was not successful. Each year, many good applicants are declined admission to the University of British Columbia. Common reasons for declining applicants include unavailability of appropriate faculty advisors and/or funding for the applicant, an applicant's less competitive academic record, and simply the limited number of spots available in graduate programs. Due to the significant number of applications we receive, we are unable to provide applicants with specific explanations for being declined. We wish you well in your future endeavors. Got rejection mail today from UBC Okanagan

Ignore waitlist. TTPB: How do you know that one-third of all applicants were rejected? I saw a couple of admits on /r/gradadmissions but I don't see rejects. I haven't heard back from UBC yet.

For those who don't know and future applicant searching: on Friday, April 14th, around 10 am Vancouver time, there was a mass rejection (according to polls, around 1/3 of applicants were rejected). A few have also mentioned admits on Reddit.

Ignore waitlist. Any news from UBC Vancouver CS department? Haven't seen a single admit so far. Why are they awfully late this time? Last yeat they sent offers around mid Feb, already August now. If anyone inquired the department please let me know.

Any updates from the MS&E or other IEOR programs?

No GRE, top undergrad from Canada, 5 internships (3 big names), 1 publication, applied to CVN cuz working full time rn

Not WL. Why did the student who applied for the MS&E program at Columbia University joke that the admissions committee was using a "Magic Conch Shell" to review applications? Because it felt like the committee was asking the conch shell for answers like "Maybe someday" or "I don't think so"! The student imagined the committee members holding the conch shell to their ears, hoping for guidance, but receiving vague and ambiguous responses. It left them feeling like their fate was determined by a mystical and enigmatic conch shell that offered little clarity in the admissions process, adding an element of humor and absurdity to the situation!
