University of British Columbia Graduate School Admission Results

Standard rejection email. Status updated in Portal as well. Only received the default covid 19 email about 1.5 months back. Later on tried to get in touch with the support team and got a response that the profile was still being considered and the decisions this year would be given till late May, early June. Good luck to all the folks who are still waiting.

There's that, rejection #6. Feels great.

No response for me yet. Canadian and UBC EE undergrad. I am assuming it is a no. I wonder how many more rejections groups there will be before the final ones are sent.

TTPB: also, were you guys on the official wait list (got an email saying we may consider you in the future)? Or did you have no email whatsoever apart from the COVID-19 one? I fall into the latter category and was wondering if no wait list == definite rejection...

End of story. Rejected from all choices. I am a CS major. Two publications of two unrelated fields (one first author, another IF=>5). A research exchange experience with UBC before (not CS). Some work and research experiences.

TTPB: Did you receive the rejection on the website or a mail? Moreover did you have an interview?

TTBP: I had applied to CMU (4 programs), UIUC, UCLA, UCSD, GTech, UBC and UTornoto. Tough luck especially with my offer getting rescinded. Since UBC's MSc is thesis based, they give a lot of importance to LoRs and research exp. You could try to publish at top conferences on your own and get an LoR that speaks about your ability to perform research in an academic setting. Try to get 2 LoRs from academia + 1 from work/intern for UBC

I submitted my application in December and still have not received anything from the Institute. Is there anyone else who still haven't received a decision from UBC?

Damn from all 7 unis. That is ridiculous. What are they actually looking in a profile? I am really curious to know about it.

2 ML Research Internships, 2 ML Engineer Internships, LoRs from Google and IISc. Several awards and hackathon wins. 3 publications. I don't know what went wrong. Got a reject from all 7 unis I applied to. Having a very difficult time handling the 7 rejects and job offer getting rescinded

If anybody recieves any decision from UBC be it a rejection or acceptance. Please do let us know about it.

Where are all the 2020 students at? Anyone hear back yet? I received just one email about how they're still continuing to evaluate applications and dealing with the COVID-19 situation. Their application deadline was so long ago... we've been waiting 5 months now :( hoping to get admitted but have already received my rejection from UofT and UofA.

Could you please tell us more about the interview. What were you asked apparently by the Profs. That would be a great help for us.

TTPB: I had an interview with a professor on the 6th May and received the acceptance on the 8th via email. The deadline to accept is 1st June so I guess UBC will be sending updates soon to whoever hasn't heard from them. Good luck if you are still waiting, late admission is a thing apparently!
