Wait listed International PhD

June 2008

Political Science, City University Of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center Finally received some official notice via postal service of acceptance. (Previously received and posted here acceptance off waitlist via e-mail a few weeks ago- wanted to avoid double post for statistical validity of this site). Letter states funding will be determined by dept, but I don't have my hopes up and cuny teaching slots for tuition remission (if teach one course get the 2860 for in state tuition for the semester) are slim and need to be acquired by the individual in their job search (grad center does not get these slots for you)

Political Science, CUNY Graduate Center To the last poli sci poster, thanks much for the info. It helped me get more proactive by calling the admissions office persistently til I got through on the phone- found out that they had mailed my acceptance letter to the wrong address (one from an application nearly two years ago to a different department). At least, they apologized and moved quickly to get me a new letter and an extended deadline to accept their offer- but I can't help but wonder if the delay has jeoprodized my already slim chances for funding (as came off the waitlist).

Political Science, City University Of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center To the last poster for CUNY, I was taken off the wait-list and accepted... They sent me a standard admission letter dated May 12 and I was given until May 28 to reply. It also said that financial aid decisions would be made later, by the department, and that I would receive notification later.

Political Science, City University Of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center Anyone out there receive official notificaton of acceptance and came off the waitlist? If so, can tell me what letter said? Was there a deadline to notify them back of acceptance to the program and/or any word on funding?

Political Science, City University Of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center To Last Political Sci poster from CUNY and other CUNY program posters, I empathize with your frustration with their postponements. I was told I was accepted off the waitlist via e-mail on May 7 and have yet to receive anything official, any advisor info, or any word on funding (except that I likely won't get anything). The CUNY social sciences seem predictably unpredictable and slow.

Political Science, City University Of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center Happy to be accepted, but disgusted at the ridiculous length of time it took for them to respond. When I was wait-listed, I was told that I would hear back in April and no later than early May. Yet the letter was only postmarked on May 12... This is pathetic. I think a serious overhaul of the admissions process is needed. Good luck to the rest of you!

Accepted on 20 May International PhD
Political Science, City University Of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center To poster below, I was told by graduate secretary that the adcom reviewed the rest of the waitlist last Wednesday (5/7)and started preparing notifications, and that on Fri were still working on rest of funding decisions. They responded back to my e-mail with my acceptance off the waitlist, and when I asked, told me I am likely not funded (and that most of their PhD students are not funded/ and told me today that they would be sending me something official on acceptance "soon". I would e-mail now and follow up with a phone call tomorrow if I were you. Good Luck. Hope to see ya there.
