English, Vanderbilt University MA in Lit with 4.0, presented at international and domestic academic conferences, several publications in progress, received a national endowment for research, developed and taught upper level course, very involved during undergrad, archival work, and had recommendations from several scholars in field.

Creative Writing Poetry, Vanderbilt University English minor, health allied major. Had some excellent recommendations and a strong resume (volunteered teaching creative writing to high schoolers, some publication history). I did specifically mention wanting to write with Rita Dove, but heard later from a mentor that apparently her health is suffering right now and she is not teaching very actively, which may have affected their consideration. They were my #4 school.

Speech Language Pathology, Vanderbilt University wasn't expecting to get in because they really value the GRE scores and what you look like on paper, but holistically, I would say I was qualified. I had 361 hours of undergrad research, including 3 presentations, clinical abroad experience, extensive involvement with the ASD youth population, a variety of extracurriculars, and worked part time throughout my undergrad.
