Thank you for applying to the University of Michigan School of Information doctoral program. We regret to inform you that we are not able to offer you admission. We had a record number of applications to the doctoral program this year, many with extraordinary credentials. Our decisions are based on a very thorough review. We take into account a broad spectrum of factors: transcripts, general educational background, prior experience, statements of interest, and letters of recommendation. We seek exceptional aptitude for doctoral study, commitment to research, and alignment with the current research agendas of faculty and the School. Because our doctoral program represents an intensive commitment of faculty time and financial resources, we are able to admit only a small number of candidates.

No interview. Co-advisors. Another friend from my cohort also got an admit on the same day (she had an interview on Jan 22).
