Sociology Graduate School Admission Results

3a/1r/6p. Got an invite to admitted students' day, no portal update, they said formal letter is on its way.

No GRE submitted. GPA is Masters. 0a/2r/3w

Rejected from Yale. Among my 6 choices, their statement submission formatted deviated from the norm the most. 300 words, 300 words, and an additional 300 words. I also had difficulty making a case for faculty I was a good fit for. 3 down, 3 to go!

GPA is Master's. I was expecting this since I was not called in for an interview. It was a perfect fit & had a great POI who seemed eager to have me as well. I'll be trying again next year!

After CUNY rejected me even though it was a great fit, I lost hope about all my pending applications. But this one still hurts because it was a perfect fit for my research, and I had recommendations from two UCLA professors. I thought I had a chance.

I've been a Cal undergrad for 4 years. I have roots at this institution. I dunno how this affected the decision. From what I've heard from faculty and PhD students, it's very rare for UC Berkeley to admit from their undergraduate pool. No idea if this is true, or if this is true across institutions. Take it with a grain of salt.
