Indian student, 3.74/4.00 UG GPA, 3 summer research projects (one in astronomy). No publications. Couple of months of TA experience.

Generic rejection saying they were unable to offer me admission

Email to check portal. A generics rejection email saying they recieved 3 times as many applications this year compared to previous year.

Was waitlisted before in early February. Received an email to check the portal and it turned out a rejection. This is pretty much my last hope. :(

Rejection letter upon inquiry. As Cornell was my top choice, it's a shame they took so long to make their decision. Best of luck to everyone applying next cycle, hopefully it won't be as much of a bloodbath as this year!

TTPB: can I ask what subfields are you in guys?

I attended the open house but wasn't sent an acceptance. I kept in contact with a prof and I got an acceptance today. Accepted this offer and declined the rest for others. This was an exhausting experience but it paid off.

Rejection means freedom. I'm no longer restricted to the only research group at Cornell that I'm interested in. I'll explore more subfields in another program.

which one will be better for PhD in condensed matter physics? where would you go for CME?

For PhD at IQC. Had been working with the group there since last summer. Supervisor had told they will offer a position in their group. All the best to other applicants.

(ignore waitlist) In response to other poster, I personally like University of Notre Dame's CME program the most. They have great faculty and seem more dedicated to CME than the other two.

All things being equal, where would you go for a Physics (CME) PhD?
