They said I had a strong application but there were more applications than normal.

I received the news only after emailing the director of graduate studies. He was very nice about it, said that there were a precious few number of spaces at their disposal, and that it should not reflect on my personal academic achievements. I would have appreciated a notification without having to reach out, but I am glad to know. Congrats to those that were accepted!

I received the notification only after begging the graduate administrator to communicate the decision. Although it is one of the top Latin American literature programs in the nation, I lost respect for the way they handled the notification process. She told me they sent out results two weeks ago, so they've clearly known for some time now.

I was wait-listed several weeks ago. I received a very nice, personalized email from the director of graduate studies telling me that unfortunately there were not enough spots. He informed me that he is: "fully convinced that you signal great promise and will undoubtedly shine in future endeavors". He indicated that a lack of funding played a major role in their decisions this year. I have accepted a position at another university, and will always have so much respect for UT Austin. Waitlisted 2/28 and accepted with funding 4/3

No word yet on TAship or stipend. I hope they decide this soon. This is pretty late in the cycle and deadlines for my other offers are coming fast.

Not surprised of disheartened. Two words: POLAR VORTEX. Haha, but seriously it was a long shot.

Just checked the website (kind of a twice daily habit these days), and at the bottom there is now a bold all-caps message saying: DECISION STATUS: AVAILABLE BEGINNING 3/4/2014. Link to form rejection letter. Was always a long-shot, good luck to everyone else!
