I received the notification only after begging the graduate administrator to communicate the decision. Although it is one of the top Latin American literature programs in the nation, I lost respect for the way they handled the notification process. She told me they sent out results two weeks ago, so they've clearly known for some time now. |

I was wait-listed several weeks ago. I received a very nice, personalized email from the director of graduate studies telling me that unfortunately there were not enough spots. He informed me that he is: "fully convinced that you signal great promise and will undoubtedly shine in future endeavors". He indicated that a lack of funding played a major role in their decisions this year. I have accepted a position at another university, and will always have so much respect for UT Austin. I emailed Professor Medina, the grad coordinator, to ask about the status of my application. He responded promptly, telling me that my application was high quality, but that they lack the funding to admit everyone they would like to. He let me down gently. It was my #1 choice. I'm not as sad as I thought I'd be, though! :) |
