Computer Science Graduate School Admission Results

I don't get why so many people are getting salty at the rejection. Technically UCSD ranks #9 nationwide in terms of computer science research, not to mention that their location makes them probably even more popular than Michigan or Cornell which are ahead of it. So, first of all, only the big four can be considered as "much more competitive" programs than UCSD. Applying to UCSD in CS master is sort of equivalent to applying to schools like UChicago or Columbia for undergrad. Anyone could get rejected and they do have the luxury to reject some of the best students. So if you're not close to perfect in BOTH grades at school, GRE and research/recommendation letters there's no way to assume that UCSD would accept you.

Reject from all the universities I applied to except USC.

I would like to add TTPB. I just lucked out. Got just one admit out of 14 this year, albeit a very good one! Luck really does play a big role unless you have a stellar profile, but you'll get admits from anywhere in that case.

Caught in a mass reject wave

I know admissions are holistic, but I can't really understand this since I got accepted by much more selective programs. The only exceptions are UCLA and UCSD. I suspect that they are mass rejecting internationals on purposes. Probably state policy? Who knows.

TTPB: Don't be sad about your rejections. The college admissions process is very strange and certainly can appear not fair at times. Just improve on areas you see as needing improvement. All hope is not lost. Imagine if next year you get into UCSD or better programs, so just have some patience and cheer up ! :) My first admissions cycle I got declines from everywhere(14).

TTPB: Please don't be so heartbroken. You can always try again by improving certain aspects in your SOP and doing some relevant internships. This season has anyway been impacted by Covid and most of sessions will get delayed.

Non CS undergrad from state school, 4yrs work experience

Ttpb: That sounds really strange. Why they dont even interview/reject/accept strong candidates for 2 months? POI said me that he is happy to work with me, but I am waitlisted. It is the best shot I have, so I am waiting.

Heartbroken! This was my only hope left. 8/8 rejects. What should I do now! Going to hang myself today :'(

Did anyone received admits yet? Did anyone contact the department to know when the result will be out

Applied for a CS Ph.D. with a specialization in social computing affiliated with IC Department. I haven't heard anything back yet. Though chances seem to be dim.
