hep-th, 970 applications for 45 positions... UCB was my dream school, however I am grateful for the given offers and should move on.

Rejected upon email enquiry. I really wanted this one!

Sent them a mail about the application status, but haven't heard from them yet. Anyone still waiting ?

To the posters below, Columbia admits people in waves and by area. So it might also be that decisions for your area have not been made yet.

HEP-ex. Withdrew my application, got a much better offer than they are likely to give me (if they were to make an offer at all). Good luck, everyone!

To the poster below. I applied for CMT and Mathematical Physics

This year is the worst for physics PhD applicants everywhere.. More candidates competing for almost half the number of positions as last year. People who have eligibility for top physics programs ending up in middle ranked schools - it's a pretty common sight this year.

Hep-th. First acceptance after a string of rejection from MIT, Harvard, Berkeley, Princeton, Cornell, Stanford, Caltech, UCSD, UCSB, Chicago and UIUC. No idea why nobody wants me. 3 years of theoretical research. 2 REUs (Cornell and Yale), letter from renown faculty members, Ivy undergrad (one of the big 5). Arizona was my backup school. I would be in deep shit without it.

Applied for PhD and they give me offer for masters. WTF?

CME from one of the old five IITs. One summer intern at Stanford. Applied to 14 of the top 20 physics schools according to USNWR. 0/14. Not a single admission. Rejected from everywhere. What's wrong with the schools this year? Really frustrated, guys. No hope. After going through the long application process which I prepared for so hard, it feels frightening to think of applying again next year.

To the poster below: UC Davis already sent out the acceptance letters. If you haven't heard back from them, likely you are rejected. Like it happened last year, they will just send a wave of rejection letters.
