Graduate School Admission Results

Received a mail from graduate coordinator that said, ''While we are still reviewing applications and making our decisions, and it will be a few weeks until the final decisions are made, I think it will be quite unlikely you will be admitted to our PhD program. The competition for places in your area of interest is especially intense. I hope you will receive other offers and continue your progress in theoretical physics!''

A professor (not POI) emailed asking if I was interested to join their group, and invited for an informal online meeting.

I'm actually not surprised by this one. Still stings a little but thankfully a previous acceptance softened the blow 1a/1r/0w/4p

Interesting... spoken with POI who thought my research proposal was interesting. I also completed an MSc here with high grades, and I didn't even get an interview? Something must've gone pretty wrong with my application.

2-year research experience; One first-author paper in preparation (expected to be submitted to MNRAS around Feb 2022).

I got an offer from another school that requires my decision this week, so I sent an inquiry email to NU and got this: "Thank you for your email and continued interest in the program. At Northwestern, some admission offers have been made. The admission committee is still reviewing applications, but, unfortunately, we will not be able to make you an offer."

Got an email inviting me to a virtual interview day March 12th.
