Internship at CERN, exchange year at MIT (though weak grades), first author publication in low-tier conference, some research experience outside of this. Was accepted to ETH though

From a top 20 university in Latin America and one of the top 5 in Brazil.

From a tier 2 college in India. No work experience. Just 2 internships.

Gpa 28.9/30, 1 year of Research experience post bachelor

Chinese bachelor's in computer science. 1-year research experience at an EPFL lab. Several pubs. Probably decent LoRs. Also got admitted to DS and CS master's at ETHz.

Top 2% in bachelor's program, three strong letters of recommendation, decent motivation statement, two years of work experience, strong extracurricular activities and leadership roles. Came from a top 100-150 European university. No news yet for scholarship.

2 internships: one inside the university for the thesis, the other at an external research institute. No article published. Top 5% of my class in a good Italian university. I put a lot of effort into the SoP, it really helped to have others revise it (people with experience in writing motivation letters). I was a bit obsessed with this application, I think that if I didn't anyone can. Good luck .

I had 18 months of Work experience as a Data Scientist at the time of applying in a mid-sized Indian Company.

3 strong LoRs, strong motivation letter, IELTS 7.5 (R: 9.0, L: 7.0, W:7.0, S:6.5), several extracurricular experiences in Data Science, and won several local competitions I was scared of not having the entry requirements (I don't have discrete math, logic set & theory, algorithms and data structures and calculus in several variables)

gpa 9.76/10, no excellence scholarship

A little bit surprised. I am a biology major but also took some cs courses, but i guess they don't prefer non-cs/stat major students

Surprised as I was accepted into ETH and had good grades and good sop, I guess French really hate me

Romanian student from University Politehnica, Timisoara. 9.36/10 ( romanian system ) . One year research assistant ( 2 subjects). One year and 7 months as a Machine Learning Researcher ( industry) . Several coding competitions and workshops. No publications. Good reference letters ( one from a former PhD student, actual professor at my uni )
