If I had known they only accepted ~8 students this season, I would never have applied for it. The application fee is quite high. Not worth it.

Email to check portal. CME. "...your application received the most careful consideration, and that the committee made this decision after much deliberation." Gonna have give this a big X for doubt. Also, if the rumors were true about accepting only ~8 students out of 650+, I wouldn't have applied. Just throwing a little salt... I got an offer from a school that actually wants me :) Rejections like this don't define us and where we are going! Stay strong!

(Ignore waitlist) Has anyone heard any updates from them? No update to my portal, no rejection email or anything...

(I am the rejected person) I asked help from my friend to inquire with the committee directly and got rejection. One of the professors indicated that they "have already made an initial set of offers and may make a few more depending on the rejections we receive". I believe your guess is correct. What makes me painful is that I have a very good conversation with my POI but unfortunately she is not in the committee.

(ignore waitlist): It is weird to me why are they rejecting people only when we send emails to ask for our status. Maybe they are holding those decisions because they want to hear back from those who got accepted first? I really don't like their system here. If they are going to reject people, then they should just send out the decision. If they want more flexibility to fill in the spots from those who declined the offer, then they can put some people on the waitlist. It's almost mid-March, and they made very little noise. This does not help the admission process to move forward at all. Guess we will all be stuck like this till April 14th. TTPB: Is there any more information you got from their reply? Like they are not planning on making any more offers.
