Columbia University Physics Graduate School Admission Results

TTPB: I really hope it is the case. I have been so anxious these days (could " get up" three times during 1:00 AM ~ 5:00 AM) and I asked both the department and the POI interviewed me but there was no clue at all. The waiting really drives me crazy.

(Not waitlist, and not the person above asked). TTPB: I heard from my friends at Columbia said that they are now in the spring vacation which will last until 03/08. (Not sure whether the committee will work in the vacation or not). In addition, he said that the physics department has just started the review process (which is quite surprised to me). I am very anxious as well but I think that we need at least one more week for the decision? I am not sure whether the admission status can be asked personally but I will have a try.

Ignore the Waitlist. Have any of the candidates who have applied to the PhD (not the masters) program heard back?

How many students does Columbia Physics usually accept in a typical year? 10? 20?

From my POI: Columbia plans to take 8 students (cut down because of high yield last year) from 650+ applications (40% rise this year). So that's....1% acceptance:(( I guess only the absolute prodigies are making it in this year. To all my friends, please dont get disheartened, we all love Physics and we'll do good research wherever we are. Don't let uni tags affect your motivation.

TTPB: To the international applicant below: Thats pretty interesting that it seemed to be very informal. Sounds like a good interview though if she asked you which project interested you the most. Mind sharing POI initials?

TBBP: I obtained my undergraduate degree from a top5 public university (GPA 3.93) in US and my master degree from a top1 university in a Asia country. Undergraduate: high-energy experiment, one conference (APS annual meeting) and one talk. Master: 1 publication in optics (IF: 4.69, first author, featured as cover) , 1 manuscript in preparation. The interview was quite "informal" (no slides), and the professor asked about my research experiences (basically why I shifted so much and why interested in AMO) and why I wanted to go Columbia. Then she introduced her research projects and asked me which one interested me most. She said that the offer will be sent no later than early March and she believed that it may be done in Feb. (In fact this interview is quite urgent that I received the email on 02/20 to schedule an interview and the time was determined to be on 02/21 evening, quite surprising for me)

TBBP: To the international applicant below: Can you tell a bit about your background and how did your interview go? Are they done sending out interview notifications?

AMO, received email from POI on 2/20 to schedule an informal discussion on 02/21. Quite surprising since this professor is not in the admission committee and required not to use the slide ("to keep the discussion informal"). Does anyone know what does this imply?

Received by email; Fully financial support. But I decided to attend another graduate school. Hope one of you will get this offer.
