Interview on the 27th, acceptance email on the 30th

I have not had a lot of luck this application cycle and got and interview. The person was 5 minutes late to the call asked me no questions about my research. I was then asked if I had a pen and paper on me to then make me draw and ester and amide. Then draw the resonance for both. I was completely floored by this as I was told by my advisors and peers that is not how they typically go. After I was asked about other schools and when I said I was still waiting to hear back I was told that I should keep trying them and it was said with a dismissive tone that told me they had already made their decision. After I received an email from the department coordinate saying: Thank you for reaching out. The committee is unable to admit you to the PhD program at this time. Will you be willing to switch to an MA program? There is no stipend for the MA program and you need to pay tuition. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested. Honestly the whole thing felt unprofessional.

was notified that my acceptance was late because I turned my application fee in late

Transferred application to Master's after rejection, still feeling hopeful!

Email rejection, mentioned that they only had 4 spots this year

Emailed to the department

Most dissertations are read by one or two people max. The people reading them are other academics, since knowledge is kept behind expensive gates. These institutions want people to pay tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars for specific master's degrees to have our applications considered. Most humanities scholarship has a very small impact on its field. Scholarship that changes the world usually doesn't need these institutions. It's great on its own. Most STEM scholarship goes, directly or indirectly, to creating weapons to blow up little kids or benefit pharmaceutical companies. To any one else processing their rejections this year, please just carry your passion into education outside academia. Most of these institutions are just ego clubs for academics, indoctrination daycare for well-off young adults, and endowment-hedge funds.
