- Most dissertations are read by one or two people max. The people reading them are other academics, since knowledge is kept behind expensive gates. These institutions want people to pay tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars for specific master's degrees to have our applications considered. Most humanities scholarship has a very small impact on its field. Scholarship that changes the world usually doesn't need these institutions. It's great on its own. Most STEM scholarship goes, directly or indirectly, to creating weapons to blow up little kids or benefit pharmaceutical companies. To any one else processing their rejections this year, please just carry your passion into education outside academia. Most of these institutions are just ego clubs for academics, indoctrination daycare for well-off young adults, and endowment-hedge funds.
