Not a WL: Still did not hear anything from them. The portal still "Application received". Is it an IR?

Rejected by all Top10 US programs. This year is very tough, 2yr predoc at top US Bschool in Asset Pricing + master in Top5 US University. Yr 1 Macro + Metrics all As

don't know how to describe my feelings; thought it's a safe school.

In the email, they said I'm near the top of waitlist and they are hopeful to be able to admit me. Is it the real top or they send similar thing to a lot of candidate?

Waitlisted after interview. Has anyone asked or have an idea about how long the waitlist is and what is the possibility of getting in conditional on being waitlisted?
