Riverside is a good fit for macro. The department is on the rise.

Hello guys, I hope all of you are enjoying your offers now. I just need an advice. I have received funded offers for Econ Ph.D. programs from UC Riverside, SUNY Binghamton, and SUNY Albany. My interests are based on macro-finance so, please advise which one should I choose. I am a bit confused at this point of time. Thanks a lot.

Ignore the WL. TPB, ask current students about funding, co authorship, and even preliminary pass rate. See if they really support their students.

(Not WL) Congratulations! Did you ask them about your status before you got accepted? Did any professor contact you before they gave you the offer? I saw in previous years, people had interviews with individual faculty before they got admitted.

TPB: Were you actually waitlisted, or just a random status? Unfortunately, looks like CMU has decided on its cohort. Sorry to deliver bad news. But I would email Ali just to get a decision if you haven't yet.

TPB: If you are highly interested in Econometrics (Professor Baltagi is here) and public policy, SU in the right place for you. Department has a great research center, which summer funding as well and you could be a great scholar at the end of the day. Also SU has excellent placement. UC Riverside is also great school. Based on your preferences you can choose. I applied for both and got admitted to both and I chose Syracuse. Good luck everyone.

If I were you, I would choose Riverside for sure. Maxwell School has strengths in Public Policy, not Economics. Also, if you go into the industry five years later, Riverside wins. We all want to be scholars, but who knows the future?
