[NOT WL] TPB i got an email with a rejection, so keep on waiting maybe you'll hear back from them.

TPB: Did you receive a rejection email or did you just assume implied rejection because you haven't heard back yet? I still haven't heard anything, does it mean implied waitlist?

(ignore WL) TBP: the 1250EUR is pure scholarship, the first year you do not need to be a RA or TA, from 2nd year you will get extra funding if you become a RA or TA. 1250EUR is more than enough in Mannheim, I was a PhD student in Uni Mannheim CDSE in 2013, in general cost of living was around 650EUR/month (of course it depends on how you live), rent is about 300-350EUR in the city at that time.

[not wl] Question: Does Mannheim really only offer 1.250 Euro a month? Is that not below the minimum wage assuming that you work 40 hours a week? Is it even possible to survive on so little a month in Mannheim?

Same as the below poster. I'm not made cause UNC does this every year but it's a very confusing strategy to me... wouldn't filling out your cohort in May with candidates who either 1) got no other offers or 2) had offers much worse than UNC lead to a weak cohort? What's the advantage of this over doing what every other school does and making offers and trying to persuade strong candidates to accept?

What is the stipend amount of a fully-funded offer?
