Computer Science Masters Graduate School Admission Results

TTPB: Applied for just MS. However, still under review. It's been 3 and a half months.

TTPB: I can understand how you might be feeling after getting a rejection. But, with this attitude, calling other students mediocre, you are never going to reach any where great. There might be always some reason for you to not get an admit. Having A* papers do not guarantee MS admits. I have been accepted to CMU and UCB PhD, but rejected by UCSD.

Multiple A* publications and research experience in the industry. I completely understand that UMass rejected me. You wouldn't want the other accepted students to realise how mediocre they actually are. Looking forward to hire UMass students for low capability jobs once I graduate from the top5 school that I'll be attending.

After successful interview I got admission

TTPB: It'll take time for the portal to be updated. The application portal is maintained by the Graduate School. The decisions were sent out by the CS department.

Hey, guys. Guess what? I emailed gradadm@grad.umass.edu and kept graddean@umass.edu (Dean of Graduate Admissions) and dean@cics.umass.edu (CICS Dean) and jmccarthy@provost.umass.edu (Provost) in cc. I have woken up from my sleep with a jolt countless number of times, and checked my portal, like I did this morning. Because these idiots don't post all admits in one go, and neither do they email you as soon as your status is changed. Their SPIRE portal is more of a SHIT portal, made from Oracle tech from the 90s. They have this totally useless "Update Pending" thing that serves no purpose other than making people anxious. They wait till the very last moment to roll out admits, so people still have hope at the last moment, which then gets severed mercilessly. Please email these guys, especially the provost. Let them know your rant. Personally, I am going to tell all the future graduates of my UG institute to stay away from this buffoon of an institute called UMass.

TTPB : Nope, it hasn't changed. Still says "Awaiting Decision"

TTPB : they don't send mails about update pending. Most of the ppl recieved it after the status had changed to update. Those who got rejected and haven't received a mail yet, will soon. And, it was the weekend for God's sake! It is the story of all uni decisions. All decisions are delayed than normal. Also, hope you get into other unis. Just don't start saying stuff to anything just because they rejected you!

TTPB: Well if they send a mail saying there is an update in the portal, you go check. And if the poral takes 48 hours to reflect the goddamn change, you check MULTIPLE times in those 48 hours because you're anxious. Which is f***g torture.

TTPB : what the fuck do you mean by mistreatment. They didn't tell you to keep checking the portal. Update pending means it's an internal process and they need to update it, not you. If you guys keep checking the portal every 5 mins, it is not they who mistreated you! Also, you get a notification email from them a few hours later. So, if you check after you get the mail, you could see the results right when you are supposed. Wtf is with the rant!

3.94 GPA in Mathematics Undergrad from top 10 uni. 170/160/6 for Q/V/A in GRE. Two research placements during undergraduate and no prior internships. No publications. Focussed on causal inference in my SOP and Instructor of DL at NVIDIA. Stoked.

I did it. I sent an email with the link below and my personal rant to gradadm@grad.umass.edu. You guys should do it too. NOBODY should get away with mistreatment. These guys don't deserve applicants.

Ignore Waitlist. What is the CS Grad Admissions upto? My application is still under review. Applied in December. This is how they treat their applicants. Also, wtf are they doing at 2 AM on a Monday morning, handing out rejects?

I am a MS/PhD Intl. applicant. I completely support all the RANTS going on here. This is simply ignorant, discourteous at several levels to all the applicants who have given out efforts , money to the university to face SHIT like this. I mean, Its the LAST DAY( i still don't feel it is though) , and No updates since ages. Application Under review. I have a moderate profile i feel , 3.9/4, 3 pubs, 1 Intl. tier 1 conf paper, 1 co author in A* conf , 1.5+ exp as ML eng at a major MNC, 2 research internships...and FML I still think I am rejected at this point. Maybe MS/PHD admits are not out for everyone, but the process is a honeslty a torture.

Their results process is literally the worst among all the universities that I applied to. **RANT BEGIN**. First of all, their portal is straight out of the 1990s/2000s and contains many UI dark patterns. Then the completely stupid process of "update pending" status in their application portal - why not simply send the result (even if it's a reject) via email - is it too difficult for the graduate committee to follow simple procedures. They made us wait for two whole days just to give a rejection - just send a mail instead - is it really that difficult? And finally, I have no idea of the basis on which they admit candidates. I am from a tier-1 institute with a high GRE/TOEFL score, multiple A* publications, and a high GPA. Certainly a better "profile" than many others that got admitted. Will be going to a top 8 university from which I have an admit. Am I salty and angry - yes, I absolutely am. **RANT END**

here goes my profile: Tier-1 university in India GRE 323 TOEFL 112 GPA 8.37/10 1 A* publication 6 Research projects with 2 being with international professors from esteemed universities. I'm not even fucking pissed, just goddamn confused

After checking for the 182nd time and after being on Update Pending for 48 hours, I am 'Denied' admission. Did not expect this - had a better profile than many who got admitted this year, last year and the year before that. Totally heartbroken. Moreover, the way they give out decisions is totally backwards - no email on denial of admission, hung on update pending, quite stressful. I think I am not going to recommend applying to UMass to anyone.
