Applied Ocean Science, NDSEG 2nd year PhD student at SIO/UCSD with a previous Master's in Mechanical Engineering and a few years industry experience. Acceptance comes as a shock, but a welcome one. Advisor and research group have received a number of ONR grants previously on work tangential to my proposal, which I imagine was a boost to my application.

Physics, NDSEG Not too upset, I had been convincing myself I wouldn’t get it for awhile. I made the mistake of getting my hopes up last year with the NSF GRFP. It’s not nearly as bad if you just remain skeptical and remember that just because you don’t get it doesn’t mean you’re not a good researcher :) good luck to everyone who got it!

Mechanical/Biomedical, National Defense Science And Engineering (NDSEG) Fellowship According to the email they sent, my app made it through to the second round -- This means the subject matter experts from the first round liked it, but the DoD (2nd round) did not. Not sure how to interpret this--perhaps a sign that my research does not fit any defense applications...?

Microbiology, National Defense Science And Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship Hey everyone who has been stressing about this. I broke down and emailed them today to get a response as I hadn't heard anything since January. This was their reply: "Thank you for reaching out to the NDSEG Fellowship Team! We have received your email and will respond to all messages in the order they were received. Due to the high volume of inquiries, please allow up to two weeks for a response. Note: All application updates for the 2018 fellowship class have been sent to the email provided on the application. Please check all spam/junk boxes before requesting the notification to be resent. We appreciate your patience and understanding. -The NDSEG Fellowship Team" Which I assume means that my app was never even being considered as nothing came to my email inbox or spam folders. Hopefully they don't actually take two weeks to respond but I am sure that there are a lot of people emailing right now.
