I just happened to check the website to find that the status was changed from "Your application is complete and under review" to " A decision is available for viewing on 3/6/2012": The American University’s School of Public Affairs has completed its review of your application for admission to the PhD Political Science program for Fall 2012. I regret to have to tell you that we are unable to offer you admission to this graduate program. Please be assured that we gave your application a very careful review before making this decision. Given the increasingly large and competitive pool of applicants, however, we have had to deny admission to many good candidates. I am sorry to have to share this disappointing news with you, but wish you the best as you pursue your academic studies.

I am sorry to tell you that, after evaluating a very strong admission cohort, the Faculty Committee on Admissions is unable to offer you admission to the program in Political Science. We must necessarily base our decisions on materials that reduce unique and complex individuals to the components of their dossier. Nevertheless, I can assure you that your application received the most careful consideration and that the committee’s decision was taken after much deliberation. I know that this is unpleasant news, and convey it to you with regret. I wish you success in your future career, and thank you for having given us the opportunity to consider you for admission to Columbia.

Atleast now I have an excuse not to spend another 6 years in MD.

Sent an email to the Admissions office and got an answer in a few minutes:"...notifications are just going out now.....After careful review, I regret to inform you that the Department of Government is unable to take favorable action on your application.....we received roughly 500 applications for just 27 spots...." Good luck to those who got admitted!

Received email to check the website. I got my hopes up for no reason. A rejection with an option to discuss how to improve my performance and how they came to that choice. Sigh.
