Hey. Has anyone heard from the University of Delaware chemical engineering department? My application status doesn't show anywhere on the application status page.

To the poster below: Thank You very much for sharing your experiences in such a detailed way. I was looking to get details on this, and your post is quite helpful. P.S.1.: It's funny that you had to carry my typo in "circumstances" throughout your answer, the school's letter wrote it just right! :P :P :P P.S.2.: Suprised to see that senior students are still active here, this will be a great thing for the coming students. :) :) :)

To the posters below: Things might have changed but I am sharing my personal experiences (admitted for fall 2014 and attended UD). The offer letter I got contained the exact same phrase (admission offer is contingent upon the attendance of ELI/ITA program, and that only under special circumstances will one be granted absence from this). Actually, the completion of ELI/ITA program is the graduate school requirement for any international students with teaching duties. So, technically every international PhD student in Chemical Engineering department has to take the program anyway because you have teaching requirement. However they were lenient with the "special circumstances" back in 2014. One of my classmate was not able to attend summer ELI/ITA program because she could not get her F-1 visa issued by the start date of ELI/ITA program. However, she attended from fall of 2014 without any problems and she completed ELI/ITA program in the following winter (program in winter is actually shorter, only 2 weeks instead of 1 month). Just explain your circumstances, and the department and the graduate school officials will understand and grant you an exemption from taking the program in summer, but in the following winter. FYI. Actually the ELI/ITA program gives you a great head start. You get to meet some of your international classmates during the program (I met three of my classmates). Also, you can contact your POI ahead of time and meet with them and their students.

To the poster below: Are you planning to attend UDel? If Yes, will it be possible for you to attend this program? I will be finishing my master's in July itself, thus won't be able to go in such a short time.

Received an updated offer letter today, which has information on some summer program in July-August. It also says that the admission offer is "contingent upon my attendance of this program", and that only under special circumstances will I be granted absence from this!!!!! WTF!!! Has any other international student accepted to Delaware received this update? Please share!

I received an email from the grad coordinator saying that I am currently on their waiting list. To all those candidates who have received an admit, please do not accept the offer made by U of Delaware if you have/are awaiting admits from better universities or if Delaware is not your most preferred university. This would be really helpful to all the waitlisted students as they will still have a chance of getting an admit.

To the poster who got 4A,1W,3R; can you let me know when did you get an admit for PhD from UDel? Also, can you GPA, GRE and research background that fetched you such top accepts?

Does anyone know whether UDel started sending admits to international students yet?

1 year undergrad research. No publication. No presentation/conference.

Received an email telling me to check my admissions status on my application. Told that my application was not approved. No pubs, 2.5 years undergrad research, 0.5 years post-bacc full time research, did an REU. Overall really confused by their program considering I was interested in the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering PhD program and then told that Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering is only the department and that I had to apply to the Chemical Engineering PhD despite the program website saying that it is Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering PhD. Whatever, it's my first rejection and I have interview offers from better places anyway
