Interviewed with POI before application. Professor has a fund. Applied in the first week of December. One journal publication, 3 conference presentations.

TTPB: Congratulations! What is your track and when did you submit the application?

Email from the Dept. of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering's graduate coordinator, followed by an email from the Graduate and International Admissions Center.

Happy to receive admission to UT Austin for PhD in Structural Engineering. The admission letter didn't mention the degree I was admitted. It just mentioned "advanced program". Later clarified it from the Graduate Admission Advisor for Structural Engineering that I have been admitted for PhD. However, no information on funding. The advisor replied that funding will be given to students whom they know about and availability of funds. It will be decided by individual faculty when it is available. Contacted the professors, but haven't received replies. A student studying there also said that even PhD students are not funded while they join but they will eventually find it once arriving on the campus. I will take the risk of joining without funding and find it once I enrol in the program.

TTPB: I decide to give up their admission offer, since there is no funding for me. I am not sure wether other guys get funded or not. I once emailed the department, the professor told me that they typically give TAs to students they are familiar with, that is to say, Phd students in goddamn structures will have to cover their fees for at least one semester, you have to take risks and there's no guarantees. It's not worthy. I have to turn to another fair school, not top, but with a nice professor who is willing to fund me. Anyway, good luck.

TTPB: I got into the Sustainable Systems program. My understanding is they don't really send out financial offers, unless a professor likes your application and happens to contact you (which seems rare if you don't reach out). I think the only way is to reach out to professors directly. It seems that the only way to get a TAship is to apply once you get to campus. It's a bit ridiculous that they don't have anything in place really. I've accepted my offer from UT Mechanical instead, who give actual funding offers. Hope this helps.

Regarding Civil Engineering: Ph.D. or M.S. admits - Have any of you received funding (Fellowship/TA/GRA) offers from any of the faculty or department yet? I'm curious if either I'm just not lucky enough for funding, or if we're all still waiting to hear back? I know they've extended the decision deadline for Ph.D. to May 15th.

Email saying a decision had been made - denied, Civil Systems

Received a response to email that I sent as inquiry. Anyways was an ambitious shot.

They not even sent email to tell me I've been rejected. Just one line has been written in my application status that “your applicant is denied. We will not send you any mails on this regard.” I've applied for more than 20 universities for my Master/PhD so far, and this is the most rude response I've received ever!!!

Didn't receive any kind of mail, I just checked their website and the rejection was there.
