I heard via mail first (unofficially) in a tiny and thin letter--it definitely fooled me at first.

Was accepted off the waitlist today-- so freaking excited but now I've got deliberating to do.

Applied to both Landscape Architecture and Architecture but only got into Landscape.

I don't know if all the schools are doing it this way, but from the majority of results for MLA notifications it looks like some other schools may be doing this as well. I just don't understand why UCB can't give you your location on the waitlist, so you can decide whether it's worth the gamble. Also I don't know if that is typical. I am having to go with my 2nd choice school because I don't want to give that up for a mere chance at UCB. Plus, they seem like they don't really give a damn about prospective or current students...

To the last Berkeley poster, or those who are also in the same boat. Do you think this is the case with all other schools who still have yet to inform waitlisted applicants of their status? Nearly all schools have an April 15th deadline, how can we possibly wait much longer?

I spoke to the new graduate assistant for the LAEP program, and he informed me that I was on the waitlist. He said that it would be another 3-4 weeks to find out if any spots open up (in other words, after the April 15 deadline to accept any other offers you may have). Two other infuriating things: they cannot tell you your ranking (how far down the wait-list you are) and that EVERYONE who was not accepted to MLA or PhD programs for Landscape Architecture IS ON THE WAITLIST!! They are basically not rejecting anyone even though he told me that there were about 250 applicants across the entire department and only 60 will be admitted. So, don't get your hopes up about the wait list. I am done with UCB, actually glad that I don't have to choose and am going to University of Oregon instead.
