Based on the quality of students being rejected, I guess it's not too surprising...

Seriously don't know what this school is looking for.....From state school, UG degrees in EE and Physics, all kinds of scholarships and awards, MS GPA = 4.0, 1 publication, teaching experience, 3 years research experience, 1 internship and 2 years full professional working experience for fortune 500 US company, certifications...This was not expected.....In complete disarray right now...

Called the office for status, my first admission, I can not believe it! With iBT 115, 6 impacting journal papers, 4 international conference papers, 3 years RA and 1 year TA exp. Rejected by CMU SCS and Princeton CS, a lot of schools in pending. Good luck to everyone.

5 journal and 2 conference publications in the 2nd year of MS, but it is MIT, the dream school! Got also rejected from Purdue, Princeton, accepted to USC and UT Austin, and unbelievably accepted to MS program at Stanford. Still waiting for UIUC and Cornell. Good luck to everyone...

To the MIT EECS guy below: Sorry for being rejected...I also got rejected(called the office and got the result)...In my case the problem was the professor my interests are not taking Ph.D. students anymore...they are getting old and in the verge of retirement...So eventually it comes down to this: Even if you are a super talented student, if the professors are not ready to take Ph.D. students or your research interests do not match, you still will get rejected...For example in my case I got admitted into Stanford, UCSB, UT Austin, USCD, GaTech, Purdue, Penn State, Illinois and UWash for my Ph.D. degree-all the top tier universitites...but bad luck did not get MIT...my top choice...but still happy...
