- To the MIT EECS guy below: Sorry for being rejected...I also got rejected(called the office and got the result)...In my case the problem was the professor my interests are not taking Ph.D. students anymore...they are getting old and in the verge of retirement...So eventually it comes down to this: Even if you are a super talented student, if the professors are not ready to take Ph.D. students or your research interests do not match, you still will get rejected...For example in my case I got admitted into Stanford, UCSB, UT Austin, USCD, GaTech, Purdue, Penn State, Illinois and UWash for my Ph.D. degree-all the top tier universitites...but bad luck did not get MIT...my top choice...but still happy...
