I have to say, I was fairly disappointed by the unprofessional nature of the department. After a Skype interview in early February, I didn't hear anything until yesterday (April 7th). I saw that others were accepted and rejected at the beginning of March, so I inquired as to the status of my application (no notification was posted online), but still received no reply for over a month. Apparently I was on the waitlist and they just couldn't be bothered to let me know. It doesn't matter, I received much better offers, but it is a little unfortunate, since I had a high view of the department before this process.

As is often the case, the number of well-qualified applicants for admission to the Duke University Graduate School far exceeds the number of available places. Consequently, we are unable to admit all applicants judged capable of successful graduate work, and I regret that we cannot offer you admission.

I was Informed that I was on the waiting list on 3/29 and accepted on 3/30.

If you are not planning to attend please withdraw soon. This is my number 1.

Admitted off waitlist, email to check website

Worst experience among the ~20 programs I applied. There is no contact email available from finance department. I have dropped around 5 emails to know phd business. They have even confirme that if I have not received an interview call, the chances of me getting admitted us rare, which most of the other universities did. Finally, I accepted other program without knowing the result of application. At least, one expects some response to his application if he has paid money for that. Its horrible.

To the poster below: did they tell you when will they send out rejections? "not contacted" = "rejected" ? Thanks!

I called Duke and talked with the admissions coordinator. She had to email the admissions committee to verify their admissions decisions. She then emailed me and told me I had been rejected. I hadn't been contacted by them, so this was expected.

Anyone got off the waitlist?

Re: Yeah, similar situation here. I received that email on 3/11 as well. It really depends on how many people with offers choose to decline in a timely manner, so the whole process can start to move.
