Re: Clarendon.. I promised myself I'd post on here if I had anything helpful at all. The nice woman at the Graduate Funding Office said that if I haven't heard back from Clarendon yet not to worry just yet; they are still getting to nominations from the January pool of applicants (which includes me). So according to her, anytime from mid-late April through May is when we can expect to hear back. She also said that DPhils are not prioritized above MPhils - they try to get a nice cross-section of awardees. I hope this helps! Good luck to us all...

Apparently I did not meet the entry requirements for the program (because I don't have a MA?) The website said that most successful applicants have MA's.

Thank you to the Theology PhD student below for your helpful reporting from the ground! I have been receiving a lot of conflicting information regarding Clarendon, including from my department and the graduate funding area. No one will confirm for me whether all Clarendon decisions have been made, or whether I am on a wait-list. They just give me vague responses in return. However, a Master's applicant was told by my department admin that they believed 'all Clarendon offers have already been made'. Are you sure that Clarendon offers are still trickling out? Oxford would save themselves and their incoming students a lot of pain if they just outlined this whole process a little more clearly!! *dying*

Hey to the Master's Anthro below, turns out I was wrong, the Clarendon Scholarships have been given for our division. I was just awarded a smaller bursary from the department yesterday, which is given to the students who were nominated for Clarendon but didn't receive it... I'm flattered to receive the bursary, but it's not nearly enough.... even closer yet even further! I definitely don't want to keep riding on false hopes, but this poster in the Student Room gave an interesting recount of their Clarendon experience: "Hello all! I'm a 2015 Clarendon Scholar and I'm seeing a lot of discussion here around the scholarship so I thought I would give you guys some details re: waiting lists, timelines, etc. As someone who was waitlisted and then received the offer, I think I might be helpful On Wait Lists: I found out I was shortlisted for a Clarendon in early March. Offers for Clarendon schols in my division (social sciences) went out on April 1st (cruel, I know). I did not receive an offer, got in touch with someone at my department and was told I had been put on the wait list. I was told to wait and see how quickly it moved and was fairly high up. From what I can gather, if someone from History forgoes their Clarendon award, the next person on the list (regardless of degree or department) gets the offer. I was an MPhil so I don't think they necessarily privilege DPhils over Masters students. Also, the wait list moved fairly quickly--I remember being told in late May (I think) that the 5th person on the wait list was mulling over the decision to accept or reject the award. On Timelines: This will be equal parts heartening and frustrating: I got my Clarendon award offer on JULY 2ND. After my college offer had expired. It was shocking. I was also told that this new Clarendon award was offered to me due to "co-funding" and the availability of more funds. So, it's not just a simple game of ticking people off the wait list. As joint funding with colleges is offered to students, the Clarendon Fund itself may have more funds to offer more schols? I'm just guessing here but I was told I got the offer due to co-funding. Anyway, I hope this is helpful for anyone reading. Good luck, everyone! And don't lose heart!"

To the poster below (PhD Social Anthro), did you get this email from Vicky Dean? Because I got the same when I inquired about the Clarendon. She also added that as per her knowledge, all the Clarendon awards had been notified. I don't know about other funding options, seems to me that all my chances are gone by now.

A little more disappointed about this one as it was one of my top choices, but this was the last answer I needed to make a decision. The choice would have been harder if I had gotten in here, but at least now I can finally feel sure of my decision! Congrats to those admitted.

Second time applying. Only downside to my application were my GRE scores. Quite sad about this, but did manage to get into BU. Now I just need to pray for financial aid.

It seems to me, from what I have seen in this forum, that the main round of Social Science division scholarships are still being decided. Though I could be wrong... I emailed my department administrator and was given this vague response, though it means that not all of my hopes are dashed just yet, as she implied that we could still be notified in the next few weeks, till the end of April: "As far as I know, you should be contacted directly (and usually by the end of April) if you’ve been nominated for any funding through the University."
