- Hey to the Master's Anthro below, turns out I was wrong, the Clarendon Scholarships have been given for our division. I was just awarded a smaller bursary from the department yesterday, which is given to the students who were nominated for Clarendon but didn't receive it... I'm flattered to receive the bursary, but it's not nearly enough.... even closer yet even further! I definitely don't want to keep riding on false hopes, but this poster in the Student Room gave an interesting recount of their Clarendon experience: "Hello all! I'm a 2015 Clarendon Scholar and I'm seeing a lot of discussion here around the scholarship so I thought I would give you guys some details re: waiting lists, timelines, etc. As someone who was waitlisted and then received the offer, I think I might be helpful On Wait Lists: I found out I was shortlisted for a Clarendon in early March. Offers for Clarendon schols in my division (social sciences) went out on April 1st (cruel, I know). I did not receive an offer, got in touch with someone at my department and was told I had been put on the wait list. I was told to wait and see how quickly it moved and was fairly high up. From what I can gather, if someone from History forgoes their Clarendon award, the next person on the list (regardless of degree or department) gets the offer. I was an MPhil so I don't think they necessarily privilege DPhils over Masters students. Also, the wait list moved fairly quickly--I remember being told in late May (I think) that the 5th person on the wait list was mulling over the decision to accept or reject the award. On Timelines: This will be equal parts heartening and frustrating: I got my Clarendon award offer on JULY 2ND. After my college offer had expired. It was shocking. I was also told that this new Clarendon award was offered to me due to "co-funding" and the availability of more funds. So, it's not just a simple game of ticking people off the wait list. As joint funding with colleges is offered to students, the Clarendon Fund itself may have more funds to offer more schols? I'm just guessing here but I was told I got the offer due to co-funding. Anyway, I hope this is helpful for anyone reading. Good luck, everyone! And don't lose heart!"
