TTPB: theoretical with some observational interests but no instrumentation. there was 1 faculty member, one of the faculty I specified wanting to work with in my SoP. the main 2 parts of the interview were 1) talking about my current research, explaining the theory behind it, and comparing it to prior research experience, and 2) discussing what I want to do in graduate school (very open-ended, it was made clear I didn't need to know details of possible projects). beyond that they just asked about a specific topic in my SoP, and for my questions. interview was ~35-40 minutes, including my questions. it was very low pressure and it seemed like they truly just want to get a better understanding of what you want out of grad school, so if you have one please don't stress too much about it. good luck!!

To the post below, the POI who contacted me has a traditionally feminine name (I also thought it was female prof) but you can see his profile on Penn website. Are you sure the POI was not male?

Interviewed 1/6, received email acceptance from interviewer 1 wk later.

applying for cosmology, email from one of the potential advisors I mentioned in my personal statement. email said that due to an "unusually large set of outstanding applications this year" they wanted to have a skype interview tomorrow (1/14/20)

Asked by POI not mentioned about Skype interview as well. I have a feeling he has been contacting the POSTS below me as well. To the post below, is your interview for McKay Center POI?

To the poster below, had my skype today. POI informed me that they send out the applications to all the faculty to look at and skype if they like the app. After the skype, if they like you and you seem enthusiastic about their lab, the POI will talk to the department and recommend you for an in-person interview/visit.

Same situation as the post below...quite surprised. Any idea how that happened?
