Super shocked! How dare they do that? lol. jk. I expected it. It's freaking MIT people! I mean I understand u have superb applications but they'll still select just a few. For those with mind-blowing pub, you're already an amazing researcher! Don't feel bad about them but go rock in another school. As for me, deciding b/w Cornell, UIUC and CMU(waitlist). Good luck Everyone!

Same I was notified earlier by email that I was in the wait list and till now the website is not updated for me. According to them we should get the final decision in march

To all those rejected people below, I was waitlisted before and didn't receive any e-mail since. Now I checked the website as well, and it still tells me to log back in early March. Anyone still waiting for a response?

They did not even send an email :) WTH :D

I really do not understand what the creteria to choose students is. I've seen my friend accepted who did not have any research experience, but only has good GPA. BS process really.

Decent GPA, Strong LoRs and 3 year industrial experience in the relevant field.

Checked the website just now and its a no, as I expected. Good GPA and industry work experience, but very little research experience, and no contact from POI's. I guess the competition was intense, but still disappointed.

Finally the website got updated.

B. Tech final year, IIT Kharagpur 9.43 CGPA. I applied to 5 schools. bit worried for this, but got acceptance from all others (Harvard, Oxford, Imperial, and UIUC). From our department (ECE), this time 2 guys got selected for EECS as profs are saying. I think for MIT CGPA, own contribution to research (publications not mandatory at all what I guess) and reco play the crucial role. I have two accepted international conferences and one transaction under review. The guys who got selected from our dept. even didn't have a single publication, still got due to very high CGPA, research work they are carrying out now for project and of course the reco from the two great profs of our department. But, I'm happy as so many students from our inst. across all dept.s got selected this time for the top one i.e. MIT.

Standard as everyone else. Its surprising to see that people with exceptionally good academics, and papers published in Physical Review and Science Journals didn't make it in. What exactly are they looking for ? "Thank you for your application to the EECS Graduate Program at MIT. Unfortunately we are unable to offer you admission at this time. We wish you the best as you pursue your educational goals."
