To the poster below: I'm a current MPhil student here, and as far as I know there's only one Clarendon scholar per year in this faculty, which is typically given to a DPhil student (usually someone who's done the MPhil here). I might be wrong though.

GPA 3.99

I got accepted end of March. Just received my college placement (first choice of college) but I am wondering about funding.. When are colleges suppose to let us know about funding (most didn't require a separate application)? Is there still some hope? I also got into Cambridge and I'll go where I get funding (if any). Honestly, for grad applicants, it's such a pain to get funding. I have a super good mentor for my research project next year, a straight 3.99 GPA, experience in research, a thesis grade of an A, international background and speaking fluently a couple of languages.. and yet. Plan is obviously to go into phd but without funding for a master, I doubt I'll end up going. Anyone in similar situation?

Hey to the Master's Anthro below, turns out I was wrong, the Clarendon Scholarships have been given for our division. I was just awarded a smaller bursary from the department yesterday, which is given to the students who were nominated for Clarendon but didn't receive it... I'm flattered to receive the bursary, but it's not nearly enough.... even closer yet even further! I definitely don't want to keep riding on false hopes, but this poster in the Student Room gave an interesting recount of their Clarendon experience: "Hello all! I'm a 2015 Clarendon Scholar and I'm seeing a lot of discussion here around the scholarship so I thought I would give you guys some details re: waiting lists, timelines, etc. As someone who was waitlisted and then received the offer, I think I might be helpful On Wait Lists: I found out I was shortlisted for a Clarendon in early March. Offers for Clarendon schols in my division (social sciences) went out on April 1st (cruel, I know). I did not receive an offer, got in touch with someone at my department and was told I had been put on the wait list. I was told to wait and see how quickly it moved and was fairly high up. From what I can gather, if someone from History forgoes their Clarendon award, the next person on the list (regardless of degree or department) gets the offer. I was an MPhil so I don't think they necessarily privilege DPhils over Masters students. Also, the wait list moved fairly quickly--I remember being told in late May (I think) that the 5th person on the wait list was mulling over the decision to accept or reject the award. On Timelines: This will be equal parts heartening and frustrating: I got my Clarendon award offer on JULY 2ND. After my college offer had expired. It was shocking. I was also told that this new Clarendon award was offered to me due to "co-funding" and the availability of more funds. So, it's not just a simple game of ticking people off the wait list. As joint funding with colleges is offered to students, the Clarendon Fund itself may have more funds to offer more schols? I'm just guessing here but I was told I got the offer due to co-funding. Anyway, I hope this is helpful for anyone reading. Good luck, everyone! And don't lose heart!"

To the poster below (PhD Social Anthro), did you get this email from Vicky Dean? Because I got the same when I inquired about the Clarendon. She also added that as per her knowledge, all the Clarendon awards had been notified. I don't know about other funding options, seems to me that all my chances are gone by now.

It seems to me, from what I have seen in this forum, that the main round of Social Science division scholarships are still being decided. Though I could be wrong... I emailed my department administrator and was given this vague response, though it means that not all of my hopes are dashed just yet, as she implied that we could still be notified in the next few weeks, till the end of April: "As far as I know, you should be contacted directly (and usually by the end of April) if you’ve been nominated for any funding through the University."

On March 23rd, I received an email from the Clarendon Fund administrator notifying me that I had been awarded a Clarendon Scholarship. I have until April 5th to decide. I imagine that other offer holders have a similar timeline, and that some will decline, so there may be a second round of offers going out soon. I know of at least one Ertegun offer holder and one AHRC offer holder, so the first round of those scholarship offers have also gone out, I think.
