The faculty has now reviewed your application to our graduate program in Linguistics. Each year, we seek to find the best match between applicants’ strengths and research interests and those of our faculty members. The committee’s decisions have been particularly challenging this year because of the large number of strong applicants in areas of our strengths. Unfortunately, after careful consideration, we have had to deny your application. This should not be interpreted as a negative judgment on your potential for scholarly excellence, but rather as an indication that we have no faculty members whose research interests match yours and who can take on more graduate students at this time. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Interview on March 6!

MA Global Studies- 3.9 GPA, no pubs

They said in the letter that there is no match of interests and the professors who have similar research interests to mine are not taking more students :(

Email from POI regarding admission and funding. Said that I will receive official notification from school later. Had interview with the same prof in mid January. 9 papers (1 journal, 5 conf, 2 workship, 1 under submission at the time of application). 3.9 Grad GPA (Univ. of Alberta, CS, 2012 - 2014); 6.275/10 Ugrad GPA (IIT Roorkee, Electrical Engg, 2007 - 2011) ... built a website searching-eye.com during the undergrad and also a subgradient solver in the final year of undergrad. 1a/3r/0w (rejected from CMU, U Washington, Stanford) ... sad, may be due to bad GRE or Ugrad GPA

Called the University of Oregon when I noticed people were finding out that they were accepted/denied. They have an informal wait-list.

178 applicants, 6 admitted. I'm 7th on a waitlist of 13.

Very kind and encouraging email letting me know my exact place on the list. 3a:0r:1w:2interviews scheduled

Have been invited to the graduate student recruiting weekend Mar 6-8. The email said that I am only one of the 28 out-of-state students who were invited ...

Informal email from POI.
