I just had an interview with two faculties this week. I am also a bit concern about the program because there is no track record yet. During the interview, I asked about some concentrations because they were empty on the website, but they mentioned they didn't have time to prepare for the concentration course framework yet. It looks like the school might have some challenges for the inaugural class.

Not sure where the hate is coming from for the MIDS program. Reviewing many options of Data Science masters and I like the Duke program for its versatility. You can add as many Comp Sci, Stats, Math electives as you want, but it will require more independent thinking and initiative to complete the capstone project than many of the short, cookie-cutter programs. I think the only drawback is the cost, and hoping they come through with some funding.

From stats and computer science double major. Not really keen.Mids is under Social Science Institute unlike other data science masters which are under engineer school or data science institutes. Is more suitable for students with majors in social science, psychology, medical etc. The location of the school is also a major disadvantage. Understood from faculty although there is an internship requriement, it will probably an internship inside the school if you cannot find any.

Also have a full-funding biostat phd offer from JHU. Both schools are among my favorites. Going to make a very tough choice...Good luck to everyone.

Surprised about the admission as my background is not very strong. From public policy major. They really need diversity.

Absolutely excited! Heard back yesterday through email. Best of luck to everyone else, will try to answer questions. In regards to my background: one internship as a Technical Consultant, and undergraduate research project involving Machine Learning.

My 1st offer. MIDS, just launched this year, so the bar is not very high although there were many applicants. Glad I got the offer, but still waiting for other schools.

Any idea when Duke will roll out admits for MSCS? Has anyone contacted the admissions dept?

Accepted by Duke via email, but will decline. Discussed with the faculty during the interview and realize the course framework and resource allocation is really a mess. Maybe because it is a new program. The tuition is also super high. Got better offers from schools at better locations too.

Contacted by phone from a different faculty than applied under but invited to interview for an opening in their lab for similar research, and then received the email invite later that day.
