received Interview invitation email by POI. This is my first interview request from university which I applied.

To Berkeley poster below: Yes the interview process has begun. A non-POI professor called me last week and explained they have basically fixed the shortlist and will be interviewing everyone on the list briefly. Expect results in 1 - 2 weeks.

Any news from EECS? I saw there are lots of interviews last year.

Recommended for admission by department. Invited to open house. Have two conference publications as second and third authors, good if not excellent recommendations from professors who know me from high level coursework and research. Also did an REU and industry co op, but that likely hardly matters.

To poster below, may I know which track you applied at ECE?

I also got the same email. If you click the link in the email, it says "Your qualification for the fellowships listed below does not guarantee you will be a recipient of these funds, or that you are admitted to the ESE PhD Program." I had an interview ~2 weeks ago and got this email today. I think this email does not mean much. I would guess it means that if you do qualify for fellowships, it would mean you have a higher chance of acceptance because you would cost them very little money. I would assume it is best not to overthink the email. The email says we will hear back in 2-3 weeks. Best of luck to all.
