To the poster below - what was ur gpa and experience?

"Positions in the MIRHR program are awarded on the basis of a number of criteria, as discussed on the Centre's web site. Admission to the program is very competitive (only 28-30 spaces for 150+ applications). As I am sure you can appreciate, the level of competition is extremely high and successful applicants must significantly exceed the minimum requirements for admission. "

We review applications based on several criteria in addition to test scores, GPAs, and recommendation letters. Such criteria may include (i) relevance of prior undergraduate degree to graduate education in Industrial & Systems Engineering at the University of Washington; (ii) academic reputation of previous degree institutions; (iii) prior experience with mathematically rigorous research; (iv) prior publications in well-known scholarly journals; and (v) alignment of an applicant’s research interests with our faculty’s ongoing and future research. Many otherwise strong applicants do not rise to among the top few when such criteria are carefully considered.

To the poster below. it was mechanical. it implies that most/All POIs selected students for fall'17. If you didn't hear so far, you may be accepted (waiting for final processing/funding decision). Other possibility would be no POIs showed any interest on your application that means automatically rejection. i don't know about the waiting list program in mechanical.

Applied to PhD but accepted to MS; No funding offered.

Emailed Graduate application assistant, received reply; no professor marked my file, Then Contacted POI whom I contacted before and after I applied. I mentioned only one POI in the SOP. Received reply in an hour that unfortunately no admission for me. 3 journal publications, 4 conferences. two of years research experience after graduation. Not disappointed. Bye bye Toronto.
