Such criteria may include (i) relevance of prior undergraduate degree to graduate education in Industrial & Systems Engineering at the University of Washington; (ii) academic reputation of previous degree institutions; (iii) prior experience with mathematically rigorous research; (iv) prior publications in well-known scholarly journals; and (v) alignment of an applicant’s research interests with our faculty’s ongoing and future research. Many otherwise strong applicants do not rise to among the top few when such criteria are carefully considered.
