Received an email to check my status. I was shocked to see a waitlist notification! I'm really hoping this works out.

If you were accepted/waitlisted to any fully funded programs, first--CONGRATULATIONS! Second--would you mind sending me your writing sample? Very sweet and complimentary phone call from Nicholas Christopher on 3/15. Got an email today to check the portal, and found they're not offering me any funding. NYU and New School have both offered me 50% funding. Columbia was my first choice, but it'll be hard to swallow $100k in student loans, especially when the other two programs have been so generous with financial aid. 3a/3r

This rejection stung like no other, because I was an undergrad at Columbia, and I thought my manuscript was pretty strong. I think all the debt I incurred as an undergrad factored into my admission decision, I guess Columbia prefers when you don't have too much debt, so that they can assuredly cripple you with more debt. I got into another prestigious program with a generous scholarship, and in hindsight screw all these educational institutions that force us to carry so much debt, for their silly ivy league name. It's another version of modern day slavery and its not worth the money. First institutions like Columbia take so long to admit how they benefitted from slavery and then in modern times they have no qualms about making slaves out of their graduates with debt that will take a lifetime to pay back. Kiss my enslaved ass Columbia!

Email to check the website. Feels nice not to get a rejection, I suppose, but this still means that I can't actually plan for next year yet. Also assume this means that funding is out of the question.If you've been accepted and don't intend to accept your spot, can I please ask that you turn it down as soon as possible? It makes life easier for those of us on the wait list. :)
