To the poster below: Based off of my research, as an American, unless you attend with a Rhodes or Marshall which are also HYPS obsessed, Oxford will not fund you. The only other option for Americans are Clarendon for the most part, and based off online research its HYPS. Many of the top 25 schools in the US are not ivy's but public schools. Those students do not get funding unless they are going into the sciences for a DPHIL. For most scholarships, they say work experience does not matter, and many students this year from top schools in the US and the world ( but public), with ridiculously amazing work experience, have not received funding. I repeat, funding goes to HYPS. Its how it is. I am not discrediting how amazing it is to get an acceptance from Oxford. Once again, admissions are very competitive BUT the 1% who get funding are HYPS or some other EU elitist university.

Received email on Feb 5 from ALP support staff to schedule an interview. The interview happened on Feb 19 with one prof and two postdoc/researchers over Skype. The decisions were supposed to be released around March 16 but still there is no word on it. In fact, they have not replied to multiple emails about the status of my application. TP and CMP departments sent their rejection emails a while ago; they never interviewed me. Not sure what is going on with ALP. Does anyone have any clue or insight? Btw, I have only contacted two profs in the same group, including the one who interviewed me but neither replied.

To the poster below, I'm sorry to hear you haven't received funding. It's always a bummer. However, I think your approach is wrong. First, there is absolutely no requirement you go to an Ivy to get funding. Most of the funded American students I know here were top students at top-25 universities, yes, but considering how competitive funding is, taking the best students from the best universities doesn't seem insane. I also know some who were top students then had incredibly impressive work experience that certainly helped them get funding. I also know many that went to non-Oxbridge universities in the UK and got funding. Of course, there is considerably less funding available from Oxford than from PhD programs at US universities, and I agree the University should do a better job about admitting how few funded spots actually available to applicants, particularly as their '1,100' figure includes Rhodes and are overwhelmingly in the sciences, meaning humanities and social sciences have very few. However, to assume that it's some elitist conspiracy against you is to discount the fact that there might simply have been better applicants than you. I am sorry to hear you didn't get funding -- I also have not received any -- but I think it's ridiculous and arrogant to assume it could only be because of elitism. Oxford is one of the best universities in the world and attracts many of the best students; some will in fact be better students than you are and will therefore be chosen for the few funded spots. Best of luck in future applications or work.

Americans don't bother applying to this university. They will not fund you. Its difficult to get in, yes, so if you got in save it as a reflection on what you can achieve, but they don't fund you unless you are coming from an Ivy league undergrad. It doesn't matter your work experience, or if you already have a Masters and are applying for a DPIL(chances do increase ever so slightly with a Dphil though). ELITISM AT ITS FINEST.

Has anyone who has responded to their DPIR offer gotten a confirmation from administration yet? I sent in my reply a week ago and its been radio silence since. I'm getting worried even though the deadline to reply is April 20th!

(Duplicated post) MD (with a minor degree in philosophy) + a master in public health (bioethical inquiry of a policy question); strong past interests and background in bioethics esp clinical ethics. Curious what does its first cohort (x10) look like...

First class Philosophy degree from mediocre English University. Unsuprising, but a little more painful for having been waitlisted. @the other MSt Practical Ethics reject, what were your stats?

To the poster below: I was emailed about a month ago saying that I had passed the first round of applications but that they wanted to consider me against the second round of applications. I was then emailed a second time yesterday saying they had considered my application and found it of "commendable standard". They then attached a letter of admission.

To the poster below on masters and Clarendons, there certainly will have been masters students in the Social Sciences who got them. That they did not post on these forums is not that weird. That being said, most awards are for DPhils, so they can compete with American universities. While I agree the University should be better about admitting how few funded awards there are, particularly for masters students, I would just email your coordinator again. They're not malevolent; they're overworked. Most coordinators will have hundreds of applicants to send acceptances/rejections and dozens asking further questions each day. They likely just missed yours.

Re: The first round of Clarendons: I've also been following this website and studentroom. However, I haven't seen a single person from the social science division with a masters who has gotten this award. Regardless, I emailed my department and I haven't reviewed a response regarding my app. Its been over a week. The least they can do is have the decency to email back. I hope the Guardian keeps slamming this school, it looks like its well deserved.
