TTPB: I emailed M C and he told me it is Highly Unlikely to take a new student. I thought you referred to M C. I did not email L G and IB. I heard LG had one student and did not anyone. But I wrote his name in my SOP. My interest was matched with M C. I did not get into it. I am so sad, I got a rejection from Cornell also which was matched! on topological phases of matter and QFT applications on CMT Please make my last one spam!

International student (British). Received rejection via applicant portal, No interview, Undergrad (Queen Mary) and Masters (UCL) GPA equivalent : 4.0, 2.5 years of research experience, 3 strong LOR's, No publications. Sub field: Hep-th (quantum gravity) It must've been a bad year for international applicants to apply. I'm curious to know whether any international applicants were accepted for hep-th. Rejected from 3/5 now :( Waiting for admission results from Stanford and Harvard.

No interview, CME, probably not going to register for the wait-list

TTPB: I mentioned S IB and L G. I contacted S IB via email and he told me to apply through general admission. I think they are admitting new students. How do you know "the advisors did not want any students"?

Emailed to check the portal. Expected to be waitlisted but got rejection. I am also curious if they only take 1 student this year.

I got accepted into both programs and asked them how many students they admitted. Princeton accepted exactly 50 students, and Yale accepted slightly more than 50. That is a 33% drop from roughly 75 admits in the previous year. There could be a slight decrease in cohort size, but not much, so that means there might be a slightly higher probability of being accepted off the waitlist. However, given the special situation of this year (especially Harvard only admitting 1/4 of class size), I suspect the yield rate for both schools would be higher. Hope that helps!

Ahhhh! Was super nervous about hearing back. Top choice! 1 interview at the end of January. Biophysics with PEB certificate.

TTPB: someone who accepted for CMT, can you provide the name of the advisor you mentioned. As far as I know, the advisors did not want any students.

CMT. email to check the portal, accepted. Got rejected by MIT, Princeton, Caltech, so this offer is really a salvation for me.
