Attend top 10 university for undergrad, decent research experience. No major pubs, but included on conference talks.

Received a generic email to check my admissions portal. Several pubs and decent research experience and stats; also thought I developed some good rapport with my prospective PI but guess that's life!

Heartbroken. Dream school and looks like I got a rejection very early on. I submitted app close to deadline. No GRE. 3 internships (2 REU's at UIUC and NYU), 2 years independent research, 4 years industry experience that was done throughout college. I come from a small state school. You live and you learn... hopefully it was for reasons I can help. "Thank you very much for applying to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Yale University. I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission. As you know, the very high number of extraordinary candidates far exceeds the number of places we have in each program, and we are not able to admit many excellent candidates."

Status update posted to portal. Rejected due to high number of exceptional candidates. Kinda sad after seeing recent interview invites.

Contacted by MCGD admission committee member with invitation for virtual interview.

Got an interview invitation from Molecular Cell Biology, Genetics and Development (MCGD) admission committee.

I did not submit GRE scores. I had a strong undergraduate record from a state school and extensive research experience. They are offering two rounds of interviews. The first is virtual in January, and then shortlist a few students and invite them for in-person interviews to meet faculty members in February.

Virtual interview January 18th-19th, if accepted in-person visit February 24-27.

I was initially waitlisted. YSE Admissions then sent an email in April with the title "Congratulations on your acceptance...", only to retract it later saying it was a mistake. Sad, but I remained on the waitlist. Despite saying that we would be notified of any updates, I didn't receive any word that the waitlist closed in late July. The school might be top-notch but the admissions team seems rather incompetent.

Just as a note for future applicants: I was originally accepted with no funding, but ultimately received the 20k fellowship (notification day is the day I received the upgraded offer). All students accepted to the program are put on a waiting list for funding, and if someone turns down their offer, they give it to the next person on the list.

Accepted off the waitlist. Timeline: applied late November interview invite in January waitlisted in March accepted in April.

Important news for those still waiting to hear on waitlists: in these instances, no news is often good news. 99% of the time, programs will notify you in some way if they do not think they will be able to accept you. If you have not yet been rejected off of the waitlist, there is a chance you may be admitted, probably on the 15th (this applies especially if you have been waitlisted at a ~PGR-25 program and up). The 15th is ALWAYS a shitshow, maybe more so this year due to the pandemic. ALSO NOTE: if you have not contacted the DGS at the program where you have been waitlisted, now is a very good time to do so (be polite, but ask about your chances and when you can expect to hear back).
