I was notified that I was at the "very top" of the waitlist, but I declined immediately. They are most likely going to make some waitlist offers, so hopefully one of you can go in my place! 2a/9w/10r/0p

Recieved a fax from Harvard, they told me my application was incorrectly flagged as a rejection. This is the happiest that I've ever been this week. When I saw the Harvard Letterhead, I began to weep—the stogie that I had previously lit and left unattended had filled the room with a rolling smoke, causing the aforementioned tears. I could barely see through the smoke to make out the typeface that Harvard uses. EB Garamond—typical. Most people don't take the time to notice these kinds of things, but when you get as many acceptances as I do, you begin to appreciate the small stuff. I don't plan on accepting anytime soon—I have a meaty handful of acceptances, and I've got my pudgie little fingers in a handful of waitlists. I plan on using them all as leverage so I can get Harvard to reimburse me for the cost of moving my man-servant to Cambridge. Has anyone heard from Rice? Signed, Lian Brieter 10a, 7w,0r,1p.

Ignore the status. Does anyone get the rejections from Davis? I have not gotten any news from them. There were two or three offers on February.

To previous post I'm glad you reapplied and got good news. That does not excuse people sitting on multiple offers only to decline making it so late schools are not able to make offers to those on waitlists. So please decline peeps. You can at least narrow down to 1/2 + your waitlist. :)))

Let's all calm down. No one is sitting on offers because they're greedy. More than likely, the applicants holding out are on waitlists themselves, so they can't safely decline their current offers. Also, for the record, it's false that no new pertinent information comes out this late in the cycle. I recieved a fellowship offer today that broke a four-way tie between schools that had accepted or waitlisted me, and I'll be withdrawing from three of them this afternoon. Moreover, choosing between schools is an intrinsically difficult and enormously consequential decision. Applicants have every right to take their time. (And, by the way, they have every right to negotiate for more funding. Doing a PhD is no walk in the park, financially speaking.) I understand how difficult it is to be without an offer: I recieved nothing but rejections when I applied back in 2021, and I was devastated. But I am happy to report that life goes on, and there will be more opportunities to apply. Be happy for the applicants with multiple offers. They probably all but killed themselves for the last four to six years to pull that off. Don't resent them for it. Take a deep breath, drink a glass of water, take a nap if you can, and find something meaningful to occupy you until next Saturday.

Hi. If you are on the waitlist at a top 5 program and you're sitting there without making a decision when you know damn well what your choice is, then I am politely and humbly requesting that you cut the crap and accept your offer. No, you're not going to get a better offer than NYU or Rutgers or Princeton, and no, you're not going to leverage your other offer into an extra $10K for your stipend. Hurry it up. Ridiculous.

Wait-listed for the TA position but they said that odds are good they move "considerably down our waiting list." Email said they'd know more closer to the April 15th deadline.

I agree with the mutiny happening here. If you have an offer just take it! Spoke with multiple grad coordinators who have said there's been almost no movement. You're all waiting for something “better”. In the end the deadline will come and waitlisted people with no offers will suffer. If you have an offer please accept it and do something kind for your fellow aspiring philosopher.

I am seconding the latest post. I wholeheartedly understand the difficulty of making choices but being in the position (Ort) of making choices is, dare I say, incommensurably privileged.

Alright people, make your decisions if you have an offer!! Let the dominos fall! No one is moving off any waitlists because no one is accepting an offer because they want to come off the waitlist, we're at a stalemate. If you have a good offer from a top program just f'ing accept it so we can all move on! Notice how philosophy has had no updates here or the fb page??? Someone has to just suck it up and go to their #2. Some people don't even have ONE acceptance and need waitlist movement, don't be a greedy A-hole.

Solicited. Email from Prof. Michael Nelson: "There wasn't room in our program this fall for us to make you an offer. I'm sorry that the graduate school has been slow to send out notifications; they just implemented new software."
