Invited to have an informal skype early Feb with one of my POIs mentioned in SOP, and told I was admitted by the graduate coordinator a week later. Reached out to no one in this department, so very surprised!

Knew this was a long shot!

First school I've heard back from! Woohoo!

To the poster asking about UT, I was sent an email after inquiring about the process last week and was told I was waitlisted. I have my suspicions that they took maybe 1-2 students or none at all in the Sociocultural Anthropology track; I was accepted to several schools which I thought were much more difficult reaches (Ivys and others included) and imagined I would get into UT. I'd love to know if anyone did in fact get admitted to that track; otherwise, maybe UT should put up a notice that clearly states that they are/ are not taking students in certain tracks on a given year and save us the application money?

I don't really know since the email was personal but I would assume that they did. I'm also not aware of anyone else who got the same email or even applying to the same program. Anyway, we should hear the final decisions soon.

For the post below .. do they inform everyone they recommend ? If I didn't get an email it means rejected ?

No email notification to check the portal. Just happened to log in tonight to see that my application was denied. Stone cold: "Your application has been given careful consideration by the committee on Graduate Studies. On the basis of their recommendation, your application has been denied." Congrats to anyone who got in to UT though!! There are some really great professors there doing amazing things and it's a great program. Go do amazing things guys!

Not super surprised, this was definitely a reach for me coming straight out of undergrad and I figured this would be the decision when my friend got a waitlist notification a few days ago. Grateful for the kindness of the faculty I spoke with along the way and wish the best of luck to those waiting to hear back!

Notified on 2/17 for informal Skype interview with POI 2/24. Said decisions will be made in two weeks.

Enthusiastic email from the department saying my name was recommended to GSAS (no official letter yet)

Did anyone who applied to sociocultural -NOT- get a waitlisted email? Wondering if they sent these out to all applicants.
