Had a below-Duke-average GRE scores but a Fulbright scholarship and a strong marine background. I was interviewed on late November, which I thought went pretty well.

Mail to check portal. I am a little sad because the professor I had an interview with seems like an amazing adviser and I would have been very happy to work with him.

Has anyone on Duke's waitlist tried contacting them? I emailed the PhD assistant two weeks ago saying I'm really interested in going but never heard back. I saw a post days ago that got a response from Duke. Does anyone know whom to email? Really desperate here.

Received rejection today, not surprised as the interview with the professor I was interesting in working with went poorly back in March and I turned down interest from professors outside my desired field (robotics/controls).

I sent an email to Dept. to ask about my ranking on wl couple of weeks ago but they replied that they could not provide any information. So I guess if Duke's deadline is morning April 15 then I could probably wait. But if the deadline is in the afternoon then I have to make my mind. So Duke does not ask you guys to respond by a specific time, just April 15?

TPB: I recently declined this offer. I think it would be better to wait, but also ask the department the likelihood to be admitted, especially a few days before the deadline. Think that: 1) Depts. have a strong interest in accepting now people that are going to accept, then signalling this has a non-negative effect on the decision about your status; 2) Some depts. could also be clear with you, especially right before the deadline, that the chances are very high (i.e., you are on the top of the waitlist) or very low (i.e., there are 1-2 spots not yet accepted and you are 20th in the waitlist). In your interest, contact the faculty. Good luck!

To those admitted to Duke: What is the deadline on April 15 to respond to Duke's offer? I am waitlisted at Duke and I got another offer that I have to respond before 1 pm on April 15. Just curious whether Duke could make any move on the waitlist before that time or not. Thanks for your help!

TPB: I am the one who asked on 26 March. I do think they haven't touched the waitlist yet. I know a couple of students who haven't heard from them either, same situation. But I received a better offer since then. I will withdraw my application from the WL as soon as possible! Good luck! :D
