applied Dec 1 so I was surprised to receive an interview invite so quickly

Does anybody heard back from the program, got an interview invite in the spring admission cycle? I am still waiting to hear back from the program

The nepotism of DSCB at UCSF is outstanding. I worked in a UCSF lab for 4+ years, received a masters degree (3.9 GPA), got great letters from UCSF chief of departments, publications, a fellowship in research etc. I had interviews then was rejected. I personally know 4/6 students in DSCB have worked for people on admissions committee in the cohort. I had more experience, higher degree, and a first-author paper in a good impact journal. Don't waste your time-take your talent somewhere else.

Rejected back in March. No external funding acquired by May, so was not expecting admission this round. Then BOOM! accepted with funding from PI after an interview. This was my third time to apply to this program over the last 8 years. Dreams really do come true. Just keep trying and never ever give up folks.

No email notification

I mean.. it was expected since I never heard from them. I was super interested in this program but I got an offer from UCSD, and probably would've picked that anyways. Undergrad stats: high GPA (3.83), 3 years of research, 2 pending publications (one first author), focus on bioMath/ computational neuro, lots of extra curriculars.

I received an email this moring which asks me to log in to check the application decision. Then I logged in and checked the decision, which says Dear XXXX, Thank you for your application for graduate study in Biology, PHD at the University Houston. After a careful review of your application materials, the admissions committee has decided not to offer you admission. As you know, admission to graduate programs is highly selective. Our applicant pool this year was extremely competitive and our admissions committee had a difficult task in making admissions decisions. Should you wish to apply again for a future term or to a different program, please visit the prospective student section of the Graduate School website before submitting another application. We understand the time and effort it takes to apply to graduate school and we sincerely appreciate your interest in the University of Houston. We wish you the best in all your future endeavors. I was the guy who posted on March 29, and I got one interview on March 26. The interview was pretty good and the interviewer praised me and talked with me for about 40 min. Everything went well until she said you are so good and do you have offers from other universities? Then I thought I should be honest and told her I got 2 offers and the names of the universities. Then, she was not happy. After the interview, on the same day of the interview, I sent her a thank letter and she replied in an email that "you are excerllent but the competition is so fierce and you are in waitlist now". I was so sad and replied that I would accept their offer and turn down the other 2 offers if they would like to give me the offer. But this would change nothing and she suggested that I accept other universities' offers. I was so sad,really. I hope my experience could help you guys.

The Admissions Committee has now reviewed all the applications submitted for the Molecular & Cellular Biology PhD program for Fall 2021 at Stony Brook University. Unfortunately, your application has not been selected for an offer of admission. There were many strong candidates for admission this year, which made decisions difficult and time-consuming for the Committee. (Ignore waitlist) SHAME ON THE ADMISSION COMMITTEE! I paid 140 bucks for this disgusting review process, but I cannot even get a result on the last day! This is truly disrespectful. They really should learn how to treat their applicants.
