Received an email from the director. Funding seems limited to non-existent. Will have to way against other offers.

Was happy to be accepted but will be turning down the offer. Heading to another University with better funding and much better faculty...

Sent an eager and excited email to [email protected] asking of there was any update on my app status. In reply, got a scanned copy of a generic rejection letter...

Another WL! Did they tell you what number you are? Good luck!

MA in English Lit with Creative Writing. Unsure about funding 2a/0w/8r/6p

Like the other poster, I expected this. Disappointed, but you know. Thanks to everyone for the kind words earlier. I've just got one more to go. Also I agree with the poster who said to apply earlier. That's the thing I hate about places that read as they receive applications. Not sure everyone is getting a fair shake there. Eh 1a/2w/4r/1p

Form rejection to come in the mail.

This was my first acceptance after several rejections (multiple years applying). Director sent a very encouraging email about funding and that a more final package would be discussed at a later date. Don't give up! It will happen.

A nice email from POI. 4a/3w/2r/0p

Found out I am on wait list at UNT after calling and speaking with someone in department. Curious if the other 3 accepted Fiction PhD. candidates are waiting to hear from other programs or are going to accept. I usually would just sit back and hope for the best, but I have a job offer starting out-of-country 4/15 and have to be out of my lease May 1st, so having to wait till 4/15 then to find out if I am accepted is not optimal. Thanks for any info!

Email to check portal. Was expecting rejection based on the fact that admits and waitlists had gone out some time ago. Two notes for future prospective students gleaned from applicants I know who applied this round (who knows how true these are, but I loved getting unsolicited advice from gradcafe so here you go) : (1) Apply early. Like beginning of December. It could actually have a significant impact on chances of acceptance. It definitely can't hurt. (2) Despite reputation for genre-friendliness, NC State has publicly and repeatedly said they are not a genre fiction program. Consider application materials carefully and talk about how much you love John Kessel at your peril. ;)

Just turned down my spot for fiction, so expect movement on the wait list.
