- Email to check portal. Was expecting rejection based on the fact that admits and waitlists had gone out some time ago. Two notes for future prospective students gleaned from applicants I know who applied this round (who knows how true these are, but I loved getting unsolicited advice from gradcafe so here you go) : (1) Apply early. Like beginning of December. It could actually have a significant impact on chances of acceptance. It definitely can't hurt. (2) Despite reputation for genre-friendliness, NC State has publicly and repeatedly said they are not a genre fiction program. Consider application materials carefully and talk about how much you love John Kessel at your peril. ;)
